Physical Education

At St. Columba’s, specialist Physical Education teachers conduct regular lessons across all year levels. The program instructs all classes in a variety of physical skills and developmental activities. It includes the development of physical skills across a wide variety of activities/sports.

A swimming program is conducted by qualified instructors at Newmarket Pool. In term 3, children in Yrs1-3 participate in a gymnastics program conducted by qualified instructors.

Our junior students (Prep -Yr 2) participate in a weekly Perceptual Motor Program. The program provides multi-sensory experiences which give the children a wide range of physical experiences in seeing, hearing, touching, making perceptual movement judgements and reacting to stimuli and surroundings.

All children have the opportunity to participate in inter house sports carnivals as well children aged 8-13yrs in inter school carnivals involving neighbouring Catholic schools. These include – swimming, cross country and track and field.

We are also part of the Queesnsland Schools' City District Sports Association. This provides the opportunity for children 9-13yrs to be chosen for a particular sport at a higher representative level. From this district level, selected students aged 10-13yrs will compete at the Metropolitan North, Queensland State level then ultimately at the National Schools Championships.
